How to Keep a Diary or Journal: Entry #1

how to keep a diary

So here it is, my first diary entry. I had been wondering how to keep a diary or journal for a long time before I discovered Digital Expressions. I’m not much of a writer myself, but I just needed a place to write my thoughts from time to time. I’ve been journaling for a long time in the traditional sense, but the concept of moving online was a new one.

I thought I would use this first post to explain how to keep a diary or journal yourself, and why it might benefit you to use a platform like Digital Expressions to do so.

Who Am I?

I am Jane, I’m 29 years old and live in Nevada with my husband and our two children, Sebastian and Francesca. I work part time as an Administrator, but most of my time is taken up by raising the kids.

Motherhood is tough, and it’s made more tough by the fact that my husband works 100+ hours a week as workaholic Finance Director (you know the type). I use journaling as a means to wind down and pour out my thoughts, and I’ve always found it really therapeutic, which is why I want to help others who are wondering how to keep a diary.

How to Keep a Diary or Journal: Quick Tips

Exactly how you journal is up to you, and there’s no write or wrong way to write down your thoughts. I have created a list of quick tips to get started though, check them out below:

Getting Started with Keeping Your Diary

The most important aspect to keeping a diary or journal is making time for it. Trust me, I know how busy life can be, and if you’re a parent too, you’re so used to prioritising other people. But it’s important to make a little time for yourself, so set your schedule and try to stick to it.

Using an online journaling site like Digital Expressions gives you a completely free platform to keep your diary. Typing is quicker and easier than writing in a real notebook, and you can do it from your phone too, which makes it really convenient. You don’t need to be an internet whizz either, you just login and write, just like you do with the likes of Facebook and Twitter. It’s been so far so good for me in using this site, so if you’re thinking about it how to keep a diary or journal, definitely give it a go.
